Image: An American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) communicationworking group, co-chaired by UGA Atmospheric Sciences DirectorMarshall Shepherd, has published a white paper and brief on effectiveclimate change communication strategies. These reports are part of theacademy’s new Commission on Accelerating Climate Action Initiative,which is currently in the process of being rolled out. According to the AAAS, “The CommunicationWorking Group of the Commission onAccelerating Climate Action developed 12principles for effective climate changecommunication, ranging from communicatingconsensus on climate change to framing climatechange as an in-group issue. Using examplesfrom across the media landscape, the twopublications of this working group highlightneeded changes to the ways that climate isdiscussed broadly.” The goal of the publicationsare to provide guidance on “combattingmisinformation and reaching across divides toengage people in action.” Type of News/Audience: ATSC News
