UGA Geography professor, Associate Department Head, and advance. Small Satellite Research Laboratory Director Dr. Deepak Mishra has shared a new study alongside 76 co-authors from around the globe. The study "GLORIA - A globally representative hyperspectral in situ dataset for optical sensing of water quality" was first published in February 2023 in Nature Scientific Data. According to Dr. Mishra, the purpose of this research is to establish the first global optical dataset for global water quality monitoring with the hope that the dataset will lead to large-scale global water remote sensing monitoring effects. The field data that comprises this research was collected from various inland waterbodies spanning the globe over a period of 30 years. The culmination of this extensive research is generating significant interest online. A handful of the paper's authors recently penned a blog post in the journal Nature where they introduce the study's findings and also speak to the intensity of the field research that was required for this study.
