Atmospheric Sciences Program
Welcome to Atmospheric Sciences
The University of Georgia’s Atmospheric Sciences Program addresses the needs of students interested in studying meteorology or climate science. The UGA Atmospheric Sciences Program offers certificate programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The undergraduate certificate is offered in conjunction with a major from a participating program.

The Operational Meteorology Track of the certificate meets the federal civil service requirements for employment as a meteorologist and the American Meteorological Society's recommended curriculum. Former students now work in several fields, including operational meteorology, broadcast meteorology, environmental consulting, emergency management, and the energy industry. The Climate Science track is available for students with interests in applied climatology, climate services, or climate change. Two tracks with an emphasis in hydrology are available for students with interests in hydrometeorology or hydroclimatology. The objective of the graduate certificate is to provide fundamental knowledge in the atmospheric sciences while building the student's professional confidence.Lightning over Atlanta (photo by John Harvey).
