The major in geography requires at least 24 hours of geography courses at the 3000-4000 level and must include GEOG 2011-2011L. A minimum grade of "C" (2.0) must be earned in each course. For the A.B. degree, 3000-4000-level course work in the major must include 6 hours of human geography courses, 3 hours of physical geography courses, and 12 additional elective hours in geography; at least 6 hours must comprise 4000-level courses in human geography or techniques. Earth System Science
The Earth System Science area of emphasis incorporates an integrated systems approach which is more quantitative than the Environmental Geography area of emphasis. It involves digital analysis of earth and atmospheric systems through use of remote sensing and/or geographic information systems. Students are prepared for careers with scientific agencies and companies concerned with physical systems of the environment and resource management, particularly in situations that call for knowledge of computerized techniques.

Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry
The Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry area of emphasis will provide students with principles and practice in the use of remote sensing data, sensors and applications including optical, radar and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technologies. Students will study photogrammetry, which is the science of making measurements from traditional aerial photographs and images from digital cameras. This area of emphasis will prepare students for careers in fields such as natural and cultural resource monitoring, geospatial intelligence, planning and disaster response.
